Seminarians' Dinner for the Sisters

Every year for that last few years the seminarians of the Diocese of Peoria have put on a sisters' appreciation dinner for the sisters serving in the diocese.

It is always a fun event where we can spend some time getting to know the seminarians and visiting with Bishop Jenky and sisters from other communities.  The seminarians are always very creative in planning the fun at the party.

This year they followed the World Cup theme and had everything in the colors of the German and Argentinian flags.  (Not being a sports fan I didn't catch on to that too quickly, and someone had to tell me. Is there a keyboard emoticon for shame or embarrassment?)  Anyways, the décor was all yellow, blue, red and black and there were a lot of soccer balls.  Their planned recreation also followed on the World Cup theme, but with a whole lot of ridiculous mixed in.  I can't remember all the games but competitive cup stacking and hand shaking were among them.

I think I'll just let the pictures tell the rest of the story.  Enjoy!

St. Therese Vocation Camp 2014

The Diocese of Rockford is kind enough to sponsor an annual vocation camp for girls and young women.  We have been involved in it several years and it has been a great experience for us, and I think for the girls as well.  There was a great group of sisters there this year, and as always the women from the Diocese who are the backbone of the camp.  It was great having Father Romke there.  He was great with the girls.

We tried some new things this year that really improved the experience, especially for the college students, and we have plans for improvements for next year as well.  The biggest improvement that we made this year was having a separate program for the college students.  This was mostly so they could have a more retreat like environment.  They slept in the retreat center instead of the youth center.  They had a separate schedule, a different theme with different talks.

Community Recreation Day - June 2014

So, what exactly is a community recreation day?

Perhaps you could look at it like a scheduled snow day.  We really didn't really have much planned, but we were all together.  So we could visit, play games, work on the jigsaw puzzle or on our craft projects, ... sleep.  It was time to be with our Sisters from other convents. Time to visit with the Sisters in the infirmary or take take them out for a walk.

Discernment Retreat - Spring 2014

Looks like time has gotten away from me again. This article is about a month late. Oops.

Special thanks to the young women who came for the discernment retreat at our Motherhouse. We truly enjoyed having you, and we hope the retreat helped you with your vocation discernment. Thanks to Father Jeremy Freehill for leading us in the Holy Hour, hearing confessions and for his
