Sister Veronica, with her new duties at the motherhouse, will be contributing to Franciscan Footprints and to our page on Facebook and on Twitter.

Sister is in Temporary vows, preparing to make her final commitment to the Lord.

Please join me in welcoming her back.

Photos from the Year of Consecrated Life

No, the Year of Consecrated Life isn't over quite yet; it ends Feb. 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated Life.  Seeing as how I haven't posted anything on our celebration of the year since August, I thought I might as well do it in one post.

Hopefully, the pictures will speak for themselves for the most part.

Come Meet with Us Open House

February 15, 2015

OSF Sisters' Open HouseWe had a great turnout for our first public event for the Year of Consecrated Life.  We estimate around 500 people came through our doors.  Here you can read a few details about what we had planned for the day on our post advertising the open house.

We got some great pictures, courtesy of Lisa Pallardy Photography. See more photos.

Come Serve with Us

June 13, 2015

Come Serve with Us Open HouseAs part of a nation wide initiative for the Year of Consecrated Life, this second open house was centered on service.

Along with around 50 visitors, we packed care bags, made cards and other items to benefit those in need.  These were sent to patients with OSF Hospice, the communities served by our OSF Faith Community Nurses, and the poor.

Special thanks to all those who spent their Saturday afternoon working with us.  God bless you.

See the rest of the photos of the Come Serve with Us event.

Come Pray with Us

September 13, 2015

Our last open house for the Year of Consecrated Life, was a pilgrimage around our motherhouse grounds to different shrines there.

Beginning in chapel, we processed with song and prayer from the Virgin of the Poor all the way around to the Virgin of Fatima then back to chapel for Evening Prayer.  Then, of course, we served refreshments.

See more pictures of our little pilgrimage.

Wake Up the World Conference

September 17-19, 2015

Sister speaks to children at Wake Up the World ConferenceThe Peoria Association for Religious Life (PEARL) had the idea to bring together those in the consecrated life, along with the priests and the lay faithful of the Diocese of Peoria to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life.  So, we decided to hold a conference.

Pope Francis, in his apostolic letter for the Year of Consecrated Life, had said that it was a duty of those in the consecrated life to wake up the world, which is where the name for the conference came from.

Those main aims of the year were for consecrated individuals to:

  • Look to the past with gratitude
  • Live the present with passion
  • Embrace the future with hope

He also called all the members of the Church to celebrate with us.  With that in mind, we organized the event to include Liturgical celebrations, talks from local and outside speakers, vocation booths, and fun activities for all.

I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.  Enjoy. :)

CMSWR Symposium on Religious Life

November 13-14, 2015

Sisters at the CMSWR Symposium on Religious LifeThe Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious held this symposium in St. Louis.  They organized it in conjunction with their Annual Meeting and the Formator's Workshop.

I heard that there were about 500 religious there for the symposium.  Even the sisters were saying they had never seen so many sisters in one place.  I can just imagine how strange it seemed to those in St. Louis at the time.

There were eleven of our sisters who were able to attend.  The Liturgical Celebrations at the old cathedral were beautiful and they had some wonderful speakers.  We really enjoyed having the time together and were inspired to live our religious life with greater zeal.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Year of Consecrated Life Days with Religious - Come Pray with Us

This is the last Open House we'll be having for our celebration of the Year of Consecrated Life.  We hope you'll be able to join us.

So, our first open house was a tour of our motherhouse with exhibits and talks on different aspects of our life.  The second one was a time to work with our sisters at various outreach projects that serve our mission, and a chance to learn about ways you can continue to help with those efforts.  This third and final one will be a pilgrimage of prayer around the various shrines on our motherhouse grounds.

This event is focused on prayer, which is central to our lives as religious.  We will process from Chapel to various little shrines around our motherhouse with hymns, prayers, and readings.  On returning to the Chapel we will pray Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours.  (It may be an abbreviated form, I'm not too sure about that.)

And, of course, there will refreshments served at the end. :)

If you, or someone you may be bringing, has limited mobility, there will be some accommodations for that.  It would be helpful though if you called the motherhouse ahead of time so that they know if they need to bring out extra wheelchairs, etc.

Where: Motherhouse of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, 1175 St. Francis Lane, East Peoria, IL (It is on access road 14 on IL Route 116 just west of Germantown Hills.)

When: Sunday, September 13, 2015 2:00-4:00 PM (Please arrive between 1:30 and 2:00 PM.  The service will begin at 2:00 PM from the main Chapel and you will want to be ready in Chapel before it starts.)

Year of Consecrated Life Days With Religious - Come Serve with Us

ear of Consecrated Life Come Serve with Us EventAs part of our celebration of the Year of Consecrated Life, we will be having our second open house on Saturday, June 13, 2015, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  We hope you'll be able to join us.  The theme of this open house is "Come Serve with Us".

The USCCB's Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations along with the three religious leadership conferences in the United States, have planned for three Days with Religious, this one being the second.

There will be Come Serve with Us events at many religious houses around the US this summer.  As I've already said above, ours will be on June 13, which is the feast day of one of our community patrons, the Evangelical Doctor St. Anthony of Padua, a great Franciscan saint.  (If you get lost on the way to the motherhouse, pray to Tony.)

So, what will we be doing?  How will we be serving?  It was a little difficult for us to find a way for visitors to work with us for half a day.  There would have to be orientation, training and forms to do if we tried to do something with patients in our healthcare facilities.  After a little brainstorming we figured out some projects that anyone can to that will impact the lives of patients in our care.

We'll be working on some gifts and cards for patients in OSF Hospice Services and the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, and our Faith Community Nurse Program.  There will also be some craft projects to complete that will be sold at our Annual Fall Bazaar.  All proceeds from the bazaar go to our mission fund to support the poor and the needy both locally and around the world. If you like writing, packing, wrapping, crafting, decorating, cutting, or punching (paper, that is) this should be right up your alley.

The Faith Community Nursing program and OSF Hospice and Hospice Home are in need of volunteers.  You'll have the opportunity to learn about other ways you can help.

We had a great turn out for our last Open House on February 15th.  If you weren't able to come to that, you will have the opportunity to have a short tour of the motherhouseRefreshments will be available.

Children are welcome.  We'll have some little projects they can work on as well.

Please if you can, bring some non-perishable food items for local food pantries.

Where: Motherhouse of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, 1175 St. Francis Lane, East Peoria, IL (It is on access road 14 on IL Route 116 just west of Germantown Hills.)

When: Saturday, June 13, 2015 1:00-4:00 PM

What to bring: Non-perishable food items, your creativity, your heart and your hands.  (And perhaps an apron in case glue or glitter happens.)
